Trois-Rivières, May 11, 2022 - Cirque du Soleil returns in force for the sixth installment of the Vive nos divas tribute series, which will be presented from July 20 to August 20, 2022 at the Cogeco Amphitheatre in Trois-Rivières. This new production, directed by Lydia Bouchard, offers spectators a playful, rhythmic and daring pilgrimage through the landscape of women's song in Quebec. Female singers will share the stage with acrobats and dancers throughout the 20 performances this summer.
Marie-Christine Depestre, Heidi Jutras and Francesca Comeau are great accomplices of the public and willingly break the 4th wall. They will be the singers, but also the godmothers, sometimes benevolent, sometimes confronting, of the show.
"The show is a love letter to our singers. It's also an ode to the women of this country, to all those who have taken the side roads, who have gone off the beaten path, who have sought their own way." Lydia Bouchard, director and choreographer
Tracing 90 years of music, this work pays tribute to the baggage left by our great queens. Two musical excerpts, J'irai où tu iras and Le début d'un temps nouveau, which will be performed during the show, were exclusively unveiled earlier today. These musical rearrangements, put together by musical director and arranger Jean-Phi Goncalves, celebrate the work and richness of Celine Dion and Renée Claude by giving a taste of the power the singers will bring to each of the carefully selected pieces.
"The presence of the singers on stage offers us a lot of artistic possibilities, in terms of interpretation, emotional variations and structure. The closeness between the circus performers and the singers will offer the audience an additional emotional and immersive experience." Jean-Phi Goncalves, Musical Director and Arrangements
Synopsis of the show
Vive nos divas is a tribute to the female icons of Quebecois song.
A musical fable that wanders through all the eras of our memory, the show celebrates the living heritage and vibrant legacy of our female singers, carried by a rhythmic acrobatic and choreographic breath.
In a scenography inspired by the power of nature, you will discover a bucolic and refined universe, in which a young queen guiding her people walks from one tableau to the next, her eyes turned towards the future.
