Trois-Rivières, September 29, 2016 - It is with great pride that the Corporation des Évènements de Trois-Rivières closes its second season of operations. In total, 95,000 people visited the Cogeco Amphitheatre during the summer of 2016, an increase of almost 20% compared to the overall traffic of the previous year.
The year 2016 was worthy of notice for the visibility and positive reputation acquired by the Cogeco Amphitheatre. The critics of the Tout Écartillé show of the Cirque du Soleil Tribute Series, favourable all along the line, were reverberated by a warm welcome from the public. This show set the table for a high summer season that charmed the audience. This led to the presentation of several major musical and cultural events. The Céline Dion Children's Show is without a doubt the summer's flagship event attracting more than 16,000 people, which resulted in a $ 1,700,000 donation to the Céline Dion Foundation.
"Obviously, the arrival of Céline Dion in Trois-Rivières, whose success earned us the praise of Aldo Giampaolo, the artist's manager, placed the Cogeco Amphitheatre on the international scene, proves that this venue located in an enchanting setting at the confluence of the St. Lawrence River and the Saint-Maurice River is worthy of the largest venue of the world, both in technical and organizational terms, "said Roger Picard, President of the Corporation des Évènements de Trois-Rivières.
Such a season would not have been possible without the teamwork between the Corporation and its partners. The organization hopes to highlight the phenomenon of mutual support and cohesion between the various players and companies in the region who are committed to the cultural development of the city of Trois-Rivières.
"After only two years of activity, the traffic at the Cogeco Amphitheatre is already impressive, and it can now be said that the amphitheatre is a prime venue for shows that has nothing to envy to the largest concert halls already well established. Of course, we are proud of the success of the amphitheatre, but what really fills us with pride is to see the mobilization of the tourist and cultural players in the city who are committed to the success of our city", said Steve Dubé, Executive Director of the Corporation des Évènements de Trois-Rivières.
Of the 95,000 visitors to the Cogeco Amphitheatre during the summer season, 54% came from Mauricie and 46% from outside the region. It is therefore not surprising to see the impact of these visitors in downtown Trois-Rivières. Among other things, there is a 20% increase in the occupancy rate of downtown hotels according to the Société de développement commerciale du centre-ville de Trois-Rivières. This means that the Cogeco Amphitheatre fulfills its role as an attraction for tourists and excursionists.
After a more than positive summer season, the Corporation des Évènements team now looks at the Cogeco Amphitheatre Cabaret program, which will be presented during winter 2017, as well as the upcoming summer season.
