Cirque du Soleil Group ("Cirque du Soleil") has been making the Cogeco Amphitheatre in Trois-Rivières its summer home for seven years now. The arrival of spring signals the time for announcements for the tribute show to the mythical number 10 with the presentation of part of the creative team working on this new production as well as the unveiling of the title and the poster. Entitled "GUY! GUY! GUY!", as a nod to the victorious slogan chanted by the fans, this seventh edition of the Tribute Series promises a highly acrobatic, joyful and generous celebration in the image of the Blonde demon.
This project is of particular importance to Cirque du Soleil, with the mobilization of more than 100 collaborators. Indeed, paying tribute to a popular figure as legendary as Guy Lafleur is a great responsibility and an incredible opportunity for the creative director, Daniel Ross, and the director, Fernand Rainville. "With "GUY! GUY! GUY!", we hope to touch the hearts of Quebecers who have sung, chanted, ovated with one voice and with the same unifying impetus, the exploits and highlights of this genius field hockey player," says Daniel Ross. "It's not a biographical work or a field hockey show. We are inspired by Guy Lafleur's career to bring to life the joy, the sense of pride and the pleasure of the game that he gave us, all through the circus arts," adds Daniel Ross.
What struck Fernand Rainville, director, was the great closeness that the public had with Guy Lafleur. His accessibility, authenticity and resilience, coupled with his extraordinary physical nature and undeniable talent, are a great source of inspiration for me as a director, but also for the people of Quebec," says Rainville. "This is why we invite the public to open their memory box and share their story with Guy Lafleur. A platform, accessible here, has been launched to collect these precious testimonials.
As with each Tribute Series, the Quebec musical repertoire is in the spotlight and this year will be no exception. The musical direction and arrangements have been entrusted to Philippe Brault, who has been working for over twenty years as a producer and musician accompanying many of our artists. The show's soundtrack will draw mainly on Quebec talent from the 70's such as Gilles Valiquette, Boule Noire, Gerry Boulet and Loco Locass. Finally, a few musical novelties will seduce the audience: an original musical creation, a multi-instrumentalist musician on stage and a sound work based on audio archives.
This 75-minute show, created exclusively for the Cogeco Amphitheatre, will bring together 29 artists in a staging orchestrated by Fernand Rainville, assisted by Vincent Côté, under the musical direction of Philippe Brault.
